Tjalling C. Koopmans (1910 - 1986)

Tjalling Charles Koopmans nació en Gravelinas, Holanda. Al iniciarse la segunda guerra mundial, emigró a los Estados Unidos donde se nacionalizó. Obtuvo el Premio Nobel de Economía en 1975, compartido con el economista soviético Leonid Vitaliyevich Kantorovich por sus contribuciones a la teoría de la óptima localización de recursos.
Koopmans estudió física y matemáticas en la Universidad de Utrecht y se doctoró en estadística y economía en la Universidad de Leiden. Fue asesor financiero de la Sociedad de Naciones en Ginebra (1938-1940). Ha sido profesor en las Universidades de Chicago (1946-1955) y Yale. Director de la Cowles Commission (1944-1954) y miembro de la Cowles Foundation en Yale (1961-1967).
